Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Altered Fairy Stones}

September 9, 2009

I picked up these stones along the shores of Lake Huron in July. I think they are beautiful because of their smooth and round shape. I decided to put little fairies on each one with word art…super simple…and natural. I love thinking about the Great Lakes when I see and touch them, as it is my favorite place to be.

I am adjusting to being back to school/work this week…my classes are awesome this year. I always love learning along with the students! I am not working one on one with my student who I have spent the last several years with…and we both miss each other…but it is time for him to spread his wings and *hopefully* fly. I think it will be a wonderful year at WLHS! :)

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    It is amazing how nature has worn the lake stones to such smoothness… they are almost "soft". I have a few that I picked up in MI…couldn't resist! I love your idea of fairy stones. Very sweet!!

    What a neat idea! I remember painting on rocks many years ago when I was out of high school and trying to think of gifts for my family and friends. My mom still has a couple of those! I love fairies, and I think these are just so sweet! Have a great upcoming weekend!!!!!!!!!!!
