Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Card making in the cold…}

December 26, 2016

On these cold winter days, I have been hunkered down in my studio trying to create cards. I truly find that when being creative, it must be something I do daily. I cannot just walk in and make something right off the bat on most days. It takes time of several hours to get the mojo moving. If I can have time like that each day, I do not need hours for my brain to really start flowing with ideas.

I am curious if other’s have the same problem? I call it getting rusty!  Either way, I do feel happy when things keep moving and papers feel right together with the embellishments.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

My mojo has been mostly MIA! I’ve HAD to just sit down
and create on the spot several cards in the last couple of
months, and get them sent out the next day to hopefully
arrive on time. I have soooo much to do in my craft area to
get organized and maybe that’s part of the delay. It’s become a really messy area to get creative!!! And I need all
the help I can get creatively!!! Luckily people like you
give me inspiration when I need to come up with something like..right now!!!! OK..age is part of it, and I’m OLDER
than you are by quite a bit!!! You’re work above is lovely…too bad I didn’t have some feminine cards to create. It’s harder for me to make “guy” stuff..rather do
the flowery, sweet girly girl stuff.

HI Nancy. I somehow missed this post. Love those cards. I’ve been accumulating some new (old) materials to get me inspired to create, but it hasn’t been working. No surprise there! Hope you had a lovely Christmas. Hugs, Sue

Nancy, you are not alone when it comes to creating like this! sometimes I just sit and cut and paste randomly until my muse kicks in! Then like this past week, I spent hour after hour in my studio creating journal pages- and it felt fabulous!!
I love your cards and so wish I had a knack for making them!
    hugs,Jackie
