{Heart Fairies and Birthday Boys}

January 25, 2013

ianwedding

I’ll be celebrating my son Ian’s 27th birthday on January 26th. Doesn’t seem possible that my first born will be that age! Oh how the years pass too quickly…

The Grand-Pup Kane will be 1 years old on the 27th. So a dinner party has been planned in the honor this weekend…Kane loves his new doggie perch that Ian made for him…from here he can spot many squirrels!

We have had a very cold week here in Michigan and snow today…but all the better to get more projects ready for “14 heARTS”…I am starting to get nervous…and hope you find some inspiration each day with the projects. Some are easy peasy – and others a little more time consuming. I just want to have fun in February with all of you and share some love!

These are a few cones and fairies I made over the last several weeks that I wanted to share. Not much new art here…it’s all going into “14 heARTS”!

{September’s Arrival}

I can’t believe it is September already! Where does the time go? I am in web mode (my part time job) and updating websites thus the little hiatus from blogging the past two weeks.

Here are a few projects that I completed over the last several weeks. Victorian tussie mussies and a new altered fabric dress.
While I hate saying good-bye to summer – I always welcome “cooler” temperatures!

Happy Friday! Hope you have a great weekend!

{Sweet Serendipity Shabby Cone}

July 21, 2012

This fabric cone was made using organic batting, vintage/antique laces, collage image, oodles of mop buttons and seam binding. Last week I was hiding out in the air since we hit record temps again.

Although on Tuesday, I made a very spur of the moment trip up north. The temps where more than 20 degrees cooler and for 2 days we were able to escape the awful heat here. My brother also went in his own car and we stayed in Mackinaw City, my favorite place on earth. The Bridge, water and clean air…what more could I ask for? Hubby couldn’t do much since his knee surgery was only 3 weeks ago. Hailey met a Great Dane named Brutus…I have never seen one in real life up close. WOWSERS! they are big!

I did get to see McGulpin Lighthouse which opened to the public again in 2009. I couldn’t climb the tower (vertigo problems) but, my brother and I hiked down the trail about 1/4 mile to Lake Michigan and saw the amazing bridge. This will be my only little vacation this year most likely, but I am so grateful we were able to do it.

More medical tests coming for my brother the end of this month and doctor visits. I appreciate all the love, support and prayers during this time. Some days are easier then others…right now it is more the fear of not knowing.

{Bewitched Cone}

September 30, 2011

As seen on the Paper Whimsy Inspire Blog…

The whisper of October’s falling leaves, crisp air, and colorful pumpkins everywhere…this “Bewitched Cone” is an enchanting project sure to get you in the Halloween spirit.

Supplies:
Single30b PNG
Backgrounds 02 PNG
Rusty Bell Garland
Studio Cloth
Kraft Shed
Rustic Folk Star
Rustic Pins
Black Ball Trim or lace
Black Ribbon
Black Craft Paint
Tacky Glue
Cheesecloth
Silver Sparkle

Technique:
(1) Trace large circle (I used a dinner plate) on to Studio Cloth. Cut out and cover with black craft paint. Once dry, flip and cover areas that will peek out when it is rolled into a cone.

(2) Roll circle into a cone shape. Glue areas where the cone meets and clamp to dry with clothespins or book binding clips.

(3) When cone is dry, add black lace around top edge. This can be done with a needle and thread or hot glue gun.

(4) Cut black ribbon for handle hanger and black ribbon streamers for front. Tack on with a few stitches.

(5) Print Single30b PNG (isn’t she spooky?) on to matte card stock photo paper. Cut out a piece of chipboard to match photo dimensions and collage image using Perfect Paper Adhesive or Matte Gel Medium. Set aside to dry.

(6) Coat Rustic Folk Stars with Perfect Paper Adhesive and dust with a coat of silver glitter. Glue star to center front of cone, and glue two of the stars to bamboo skewers. Tie black ribbon underneath.

(7) Print script from Backgrounds 02 PNG and roll. Attach a staple in back to secure.

(8) Cut and tea stain two pieces of cheese cloth (approximately 4.5 inches by 10 inches each). Set aside to dry.

(9) Stuff cone with kraft shred. Add photo, rolled script tube, tuck cheesecloth in front and back of cone, silver stars, and straw flowers.

(10) Dust the cone with black glitter in certain areas using tacky glue.

(11) Wrap rusty bell garland around the base of the cone. You may need to glue it at the back to hold the bells in place.

This cone will make a charming accent to your home, office, studio or to give as a gift this Halloween season. I would love to see your “Bewitched Cone” project. Can you share it with me by placing a link on the Paper Whimsy Inspire Blog?
