{Magical Snowflake Faerie Wands ~ Day #6}

December 6, 2013

snowflakewandsblog

Christmas waves a magic wand over this world, and behold,

everything is softer and more beautiful.

~ Norman Vincent Peale

Snowflake Faerie Wands

Are you dreaming of Sugar Plums? Who wouldn’t have fun creating these magical wands?

Supplies:

Silver Metallic Craft Paint
Snowflakes (Dollar Store)
Matte Gel Medium
Wooden Stars
Ice Resin (optional)
Paint Brush
Dowel Rods
Ribbon
Assorted Paper Whimsy faces
Petite Winged Watches (Alterables from Paper Whimsy)
Silver German Glass Glitter
Silver Glitter Glue/Silver Stickles
Silver Tinsel Garland
Hot Glue Gun

Technique:

(1) Paint wooden stars and Paper Whimsy Alterable in desired color using craft paint.

(2) Brush matte gel medium (or other adhesive) on wood stars and sprinkle Silver German glass glitter on each. This may take a few applications in order to get the star covered quite well.

(3) If you are using alterables glue pieces together with desired collage image. You can also add ice resin to achieve a glass look for your piece. Place alterable on to Silver German glass wood star using E6000 glue and set aside to dry.

(4) Place two different sized snowflakes together using E6000 glue making sure the snowflakes are centered and in alignment. Once the snowflakes have adhered together, add silver wooden star with collage image to center of snowflake using E6000 glue. Set aside and allow time to dry.

(5) You may add dabs of silver glitter glue or stickles to the edges of each snowflake if you wish.

(6) Paint a small wooden dowel rod with silver metallic craft paint top to bottom (all sides) and set aside to dry on wax paper.

(7) Once dowel rod is dry, set in place on the back of the layered snowflake piece using a hot glue gun (or adhesive of your choice) making sure the dowel is pretty well covered with hot glue to hold the dowel in place.

(8) Add a small amount of tinsel to the back of the snowflake. This will help hide the hot glue/dowel and give some extra sparkle.

(9) Add a Christmas phrase to the bottom of each snowflake (optional) and tie a ribbon at the top of the dowel.

Variations:
Skip adding the dowel rod and add a hanger to use on the Christmas tree or as a package accent.

{Angelic Fabric Hangers ~ Day #5}

December 5, 2013

angelfabricornament

Angelic Fabric Hangers

These little fabric hangers make perfect ornaments or wee gifties for your loved ones this year!

Little Angels Digital Collage Sheet
Fabric Transfer Sheets
Mica Chips (optional)
Mother of Pearl Buttons
Muslin Fabric
Alene’s Tacky Glue
Sewing machine
Various Lace
Remnants Scissors
Rotary Cutter (optional)
Duck Cloth Canvas

Technique:

(1) Print out Digital Collage Angel Sheet on to a fabric photo transfer sheet using the product guidelines from the manufacturer and your printer options. Cut each photo out with a rotary cutter or by hand with scissors.

(2) Tear (or cut if you want exact measurements) strips of muslin a little larger than the angel image. This will allow a small fabric border to highlight your image. You can even up the fabric by pulling threads for a frayed look or simply snip away with scissors.

(3) Center image on muslin fabric and select a pretty machine stitch and sew around the edge. For those of you that do not sew you can make running stitches to secure.

(4) Cut strips of canvas (duck cloth) to fit the image you have sewn on muslin. Fray the edges by pulling strands of fabric off. Add tacky glue to the back of the angel/muslin image (in an S shape) and place on duck cloth canvas. Smooth out glue bumps with fingers or a brayer and set aside to dry.

(5) Sew a piece of lace (or several for a layered effect) and sew at the bottom of the ornament.

(6) Sew seed beads with needle and thread on random spots along the border of the photo.

(7) Sew a piece of lace border to the top of ornament to form a hanger. Sew two buttons over ends of lace.

(8) Brush tacky glue in random areas of ornaments and sprinkle with mica chips.
