{Celebrating Dad}

February 18, 2010

thistle

Today my Dad would have been 84 so I am trying to celebrate his life and remember what a wonderful man he was. The thistle has now become symbolic in remembering him, it was tucked in his suit lapel the day we buried him, we had thistles etched on his gravestone, and my daughter doodled it on the February calendar marking his birthday.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    I was just talking with my son how he never knew my dad & what a shame.

    We started to giggle about what kind of grandfather my husband will make one day !

    I like the simplicity of this post. Having lost my own sweet father last week this tugs at my heart.

    Hello Nancy,

    Thanks for sharing the memory of your father with me. Daughters usually have such a close bond with their fathers and I can tell that you did.

    My father just turned 79 years old…he (fortunately comes from a long lived blood line) both his mother and father lived to be a few months shy of 100. I'm hoping I inherited it as well because they not only lived a very long life but it had quality to it til the end.

    Have a lovely day of memories..

    A very sweet post about your dad, Nancy. I lost my dad 10 years ago this coming March…the day will be remembered and then we will celebrate his first great grandson's 7th birthday the following day.

    I think posts like this offer all of us a chance to walk down our own lane of memories….

    Wonderful tribute to your dad… My own dad is quickly aging away in a nursing home. It's hard going there and not knowing whether or not he'll think I'm his sister or myself. It's good to remember the early memories of them young and vibrant!

    Nice tribute to your Dad.
    Come over from Debby's The Gathering Nest where she was sharing her altered spoons made from your tutorial. Had to pop over and see yours…lovely. All your creations are divine and I look forward to seeing more from your artistically talented fingers.
    Thanks for sharing ;-)
