Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Fairy Banners}

January 26, 2009

The banners were a wee bit difficult to photograph, but there was some sunshine today here in cold Michigan and I wanted to take the opportunity. I made the banners folding 6 inch squares diagonally, sewing along the edges, adding paper doilies, buttons, and vintage images (Lisa’s Altered Art). I ran ribbon or twine through eyelets to string each piece. Ink the edges with your favorite distress ink colors and hang. Mini safety pins, primas and stamped tags were also added.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    Nancy,
    WOW! I love the banner. I think I am in love with the banner fad. I hope it sticks around for a long time. I am still working on mine, my friend is moving into her old/new home and I am making her the house banner featured in Somerset. Of Course I'm making my own design, just using the template. I just wish I had more time. Yours is just beautiful.

    LOL Nancy about the "Creepy Attic Art" and small pox! Boys are the BEST aren't they? Yours are so grownup. I can't picture mine like that, but I know that it is just like you said. It goes so fast, but seems just like yesterday.

    I love your banners and I am jealous that you know how to sew! I need to learn how, but never seem to get around to it. Have a wonderful weekend sweetie! Love, Jamie

    Nancy,
    Being new to making banners I have a question you might be able to answer for me. Is it okay to have only four sections to a banner. I want to use the theme HOME. If four is not a good choice I can add another. Thanks for any help.
