This project has been a labor of love, sorrow and reflection for me the last few weeks. I started it right before my Dad passed away. I had realized that there was so very little I had scrapped about my Mother’s family. My Dad and I spent a lot of time recording his life, and even 5 days before his death I secretly tape recorded our family history session . I still have not had the courage to listen to that tape but am grateful I have it (thank you to dear Jacque for suggesting this)….
As for the album, it reflects 8 generations of my mother’s family. The Ford’s.
My father has now been laid to rest with this wonderful clan of people in Dearborn, Michigan. The cemetery is quaint and small. My great-great-great grandparents are buried there, followed down the line. Although this is not my Dad’s family by blood,
it gives me a little peace knowing the history among the graves he is with.
The album traces back to the first generations of Ford’s in Ireland. Family trees,
photos, farmland maps are all included. My great-great grandfather was Henry Ford (the automaker’s) uncle – and supposedly his name sake. Besides having an American icon in the family, the Ford’s were very humble, and enjoyed a simple life.
The album ends with my 3 children (my mother was the last with the surname Ford on my family). My hope in creating this album was to give basic information as to our roots that could be read at a glance with interest and reflection.
