Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Great Lakes Fairy}

December 12, 2006

I adore lighthouses (have a web site devoted to them) and I altered a photo I took of St. Joseph Lighthouse to portray the blue and calmness I feel while on Lake Michigan’s shores. A little fairy was also added into the nautical theme.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    Amazing how altering the colors can totally change the feel of a picture! Love the fairy child too.

    I ESPECIALLY love your Great Lakes Fairy cause I grew up loving that lighthouse. I greived when they changed the foghorn to the mechanical kind, I had always loved the old "BE__LOW" of the old foghorn. My grandmother always said that the foghorn and a freight train horn in the night were "the most sad sounds in the world". I used to sit on her front porch on drizzly evenings with my little umbrella over me just to listen to the foghorn. I have a collection of pictures of "my" lighthouse. Many of them hang in my bathroom. My grandmother and grandfather have been dead for years, no relatives live in that area to speack of any more. All that is left for me to miss are "my" lake and "my" lighthouse. And I miss them terribly.
