{History of the Ford’s Arch}

February 24, 2008

This weeks challenge at Gothic Arches
is to create an arch using the theme history. It can be personal or the broader term of history.

I select to combine the two. I am of relation to Henry Ford the automobile maker and decided to make a piece paying tribute to the Ford Family. I used photos of Henry, my great-great grandfather (another Henry) and my Grandfather and Mother (Orla and Betty Ford) – all with cars and the lower photo on the left was taken on the farm.
The Ford’s were a farming family. Their farming homesteads took up most of what is now Detroit/Redford area. We are a “car” family – not only because of everyone working for the company – but my Dad (who was of no relation) was a design engineer for Ford Motor Company for 36 years. He has now been laid to rest in the quaint Ford Family cemetery. I am headed there today to pay respect to my Dad, and Henry’s grave will be nearby as well as all my grandparents, great-grandparents and great-great Grandparents.

    How interesting to learn about your family history — didn't know you were related to the Fords. Love what you did with your arch, it's just wonderfully detailed. Love when art and history come together like this.
