In the heat of this week, I started working on this project the other day. The colors were selected because I wanted to think “cool”! I started out with a old cabinet card and started to apply different layers of paint in various hues. Building the paints is always what takes forever. I went back over it with a honeycomb mylar stencil I had. I then applied some paper doilies, ephemera (butterfly wings), and printed out some computer text which I chalked in as well to give it that pink hue. I diluted white paint with water on a paper plate and went back over it yet again to give it that washed look.

Once I had the cabinet card done, I did the same to an 8 x 10 canvas. When the canvas was to my liking, I used E6000 glue and adhered the card directly to the canvas. I added a few mother of pearl buttons and called it done.

I hope you are staying COOL wherever you are! :-)

This collage is lovely and it does have the cooling effect with its water hued colors. I also really like your Fabric Festoon in your previous post. Since I have not had a computer I missed several of your posts so I have read backwards. Congratulations on your 1 year of recovery. To me you seem amazing and strong. Continued Healing and Creative Bliss Dear…

What a beautiful piece. I agree there is a cooling effect to your color treatment. I’m so glad you’re doing and sharing creative pieces with us again. I also must comment on your fabric festoon…this is really special. (I’ve been busy with two new dogs, 1 adult 1 puppy and my
time on the computer has been vastly shortened, and my creativity time has been nil!)

What a beautiful old cabinet card, Nancy, the girl standing there after her communion I guess.
A great idea to paint on the card , before mounting it onto the canvas, it give a totally new story, with the cool colours and the wonderful effect from the stecil…I can now see it is not chicken wire, lol !!
So lovely also with the butterflyes and buttons, the doilies and text paper, dear friend.
Hugs and weekend wishes from Dorthe

    Hi Nancy,
Lovely to see you working with the paints, adding textures, butterflies and lovely buttons.
Of course, the focal image is just beautiful too. There she is standing so proudly surrounded by lace and flowers. I wonder if she is making her First Communion??!!
You have done such a lovely job of the dark and light coloring!
Hugs and wishing you a lovely weekend,
    Suzy

So lovely, Nancy! Our summer has been horrifically hot here in the Sacramento area–we are enjoying a “cooling trend” today–it’s only going to be 92!
