Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{July & Apple Pie}

July 1, 2010

Happy July! I’m feeling a bit patriotic with the 4th coming up in a few days and created this ATC using a combination of ephemera, pattern papers, antique buttons and a Paper Whimsy image.

My patriotism grew strongly when my son Andrew was in the Army.I still pinch myself everyday that he is in Michigan now and safe…I wonder if that feeling will ever go away as a Mom? I cry more easily than ever when seeing a service man, parade, or hearing certain patriotic songs. Even though my Dad was a World War II Veteran, I didn’t realize the sacrifices made for our country until my own son was in the service.

I am grateful to live in the U.S.A. and for all that our troops do on a daily basis… wherever they are. It takes a strong dedication to serve in our Armed Forces. Bless our troops! Have a Happy and safe 4th of July everyone!

    Nancy, a Happy 4th of July weekend to you. You have every right to be proud of your son. I am not a mother but it seems that it is a mother's job to always worry. I am 42 and my Mum still worries LOL. In the U.K. I would say we don't embrace the same feeling of being patriotic as our American cousins, not sure why that is. Your ATC signifies everything patriotic in a stunning little package. Love that image! Lynne

    Blessings & a Huge 4th of July Hug to your baby boy!
    A boy who grew into a man, who was willing to put his life on the line for his country.
    A man who would stand up & protect & defend those weaker then him.
    Your heart must just be bursting with pride, especially around the 4th of July!!!
    Job well done Mom…
    Smiles,

    Please give my thanks to your son for his service. I am so glad he is safe now.

    My husband served 20+ years in the Air Force. I am extremely proud of his service there. When he passed away he had a full military burial at Arlington National Cemetary. To this day I cannot hear "Taps" without crying.

    We are so lucky to be living in America. We know freedom like no other place on our Earth.
