{Lady Murasaki}

When I was 19 and attending floral design school, I had a student in my course from Japan. She called me “Murasaki” which means purple…because she knew that I loved the color.

I rarely make mixed-media projects with an Asian influence, and felt it was time to try something in that area. I used a small paper mache box that I purchased at Michael’s as my base. The box was set on its lid and the base was painted a deep purple. I highlighted the bottom using gold. The sides I stamped with gold embossing powder and heat set. Various Japanese ephemera and images were used on the interior, including a stamp from Japan (Hero Arts).
