Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Rose Garden Vintage Fabric Journal}

May 3, 2017

I wanted to share this Rose Garden Fabric Journal that I recently completed. For this project, I decided to mix both faces and rose images throughout. I print my images on June Tailor Fabric Sheets (inserted into my printer.) I used a mixture of vintage pink Swiss dot fabric and muslin as the page backgrounds. I incorporated antique/vintage collars, laces,and fabric remnants throughout the journal as well. Lots of hand sewing adding little rosebud millinary flowers and mother of pearl buttons.

I like the mixture of the pink fabrics and the muslin backgrounds. Something a little different then my usual journals. The sun finally came out this morning after days of rain and grey, so I grabbed my camera and tried to get the best light possible.

    Oh it is so lovely, romantic and beautiful, dear Nancy. So many gorgeous details, when closely looking through every spread. And I love your color choices , too. I never heard about the fabric you print on,- but it looks so beautiful.
    Thank you for showing it all, the laces and old pieces you have used are stunning.

    This is just darling. Love the fabric colors and especially the old laces. I’ve used the June Tailor fabric
    sheets too, so great to print directly on fabric.

    This is so very beautiful Nancy…
    The combination of roses and the lovely faces is very charming. And all of your layering of laces and different pieces adds such richness with all of the lovely textures. Thank you for sharing what how you work it all together. I am inspired to try something like this. Have a lovely Mother’s Day!

    Your fabric book is so gorgeous and sweet, Nancy. The pink really brings it to life and adds some brightness to it, I love it! I have been pinning away some of your gorgeous fabric books of late. Yummy :) Wishing you a beautiful happy day, xx
