Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{September Altered Journal}

September 4, 2011

I am in an Autumn mood. Fall colors are inspiring me. This journal was made using K & Company papers, Paper Whimsy images, seam binding and Tim Holtz accents. There are also K & Company 3-D embellishments. I don’t work with bright hues often, but the papers set my muse for this project.

I hate to say good-bye to summer because it is here for only a blink of an eye. The heat has been unbearable this year. Looking forward to tending the veggie and flower beds with the cooler temps ahead. Lots to do and so little time before we will be raking leaves and preparing for snow!

Happy September everyone – and may you have a safe and Happy Labor Day!

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    I am definitely in a fall mood but the weather, here, is not! It is SO humid again! Ick! We are supposed to get storms to relieve this awful humidity.

    I absolutely love your journal here! It’s stunning with the colors and image – your touches are just perfection.

    Thoughts of you always……xxoo Marilyn

    What a beautiful creation,love the colors.
    Bet we’re a bit cooler up north. I put the Basil under cover and looks like the 40’s tonight.
    Have to admit it feels good and that fresh air smells terrific.

    Another gorgeous creation, Nancy! I often see the same embellishments in your art that I have here at home–I know we love the same things! Every time I have a good coupon and a little money, I go to Michael’s or JoAnn’s and get a little something, like those K & Co appliques, pretty paper, or Tim Holtz goodies . . . and I’ve always loved using antique buttons and images of butterflies . . . and sparkles! The difference between us is that you’re actually busy and committed to your art, while it takes me forever to get any projects done because I procrastinate–still, your beautiful art is always so inspiring to me. We’re going to hit 98 degrees today–too much heat for me, but at least we don’t have the humidity to deal with–have a wonderful, wonderful week!

    Fall is my favorite season, indeed! I hate the summer humidity. Right now it is raining but that is OK with me.

    I too love the K & Co. papers.

    Stay cool!
