Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Shabby Christmas Cone}

October 25, 2010

I really love organic batting right now. I used to sew all the time when my children were young and lately I can’t get enough of a sewing machine and hand sewing. I have always wanted to create a Victorian cone and decided over the weekend to make one using organic batting. The hardest part was coming up with a proto-type because I didn’t use a pattern.

I added vintage lace along the edge (hand stitched) with old buttons and a bit of seam binding ribbon. Inside pages from an old Psalter Hymnal were added, more antique lace, a Paper Whimsy image that was adhered to chipboard (sparkled edges and silver photo corners) and a bunch of cream flowers. I also added crystal from an old chandelier. I had so much fun making this cone my hope is to create more…on a smaller scale….perhaps for my corner Christmas tree?!

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.
