Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Shabby Tin Type Shadow Box}

September 6, 2011

I finished up this shadow box last week and finally took some photos. I used an old tin type photo and words from an old book. Inside are oodles of vintage touches…silver skeleton key, fractured doll, antique laces, old french ephemera, ivory silk millinery flower, glass vile with beads.

I added two large spools to the bottom of the box and large rhinestone buttons to the insides.
A large tarnished silver spoon adorns the top to appear as if there is a handle there. I am really starting to love distressed white more and more (furniture, home decor, art) and find it really brings something special into a home.

Special thanks to Marilyn for the box to alter! ;)

    Wow Nancy!! This is just as lovely as your fall journal! Love the stark white with the cream and white elements on the interior of your box. So elegant. I just love your style. The lace pieces are so lovely. I also love the flower with the delicate little pearl accents. Then mixing the metal spoon and the key with the white…just beautiful! <3 Candy
