Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Snow Arches}

November 30, 2008

This weeks theme at Gothic Arches is “Snow”…and we have had our share already this season. Today they are calling for 4-8 inches…winter came early in Michigan.

I created two arches for the challenge because I wasn’t crazy about my first.
Sometimes I invision one thing and it comes out totally different.

Arch #1 – I traced the vintage photo in the shape of an arch, added vintage distress ink to the edges. Stamps are from “Hero Arts”, and added vellum snowflakes.

Arch #2 – I used snowflake stamps from Sugar Lump Studios which were embossed in white, glitter swirls were also added, old sheet music and vintage photo. White sparkling ribbon, buttons and a “S” chipboard letter.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    Very nice!! We haven't had ANY accumulation here yet. It has snowed a little bit off and on, but nothing worth noting. The areas south of us have been slammed, though.

    I love Arch #1 for its simplicity and the clarity of the image. It's wonderful. Arch #2 is softer and lovely as well. Your talent shines through in everything you do!

    Nancy, these are both wonderful and they work as a pair, I think. The colors you've selected are so vintage and I quite enjoy the ephemera you've placed in each. Thanks so much for the opportunity to hostess. All this snow must be working is magic…our forecast is now calling for snow this afternoon and tonight! :) Happy Holidays!
