These pieces were inspired by the fabric flowers I created last spring…you may remember the fabric and lace wedding bouquet I made here…

The tag is quite simplistic – but that is what I love most about. Just some old sheet music lyrics at the bottom of the tag and lace remnants.

The canvas was made using one of the recent cabinet photos given to me by dearest daughter…I covered a flat 8 x 10 canvas with an old tissue dress pattern. Added some vintage Polish sheet music as a layer on top. Next, I glued silver photo corners (E6000 glue) on the cabinet photo and mother of pearl buttons. Add a bit of E6000 to the back of the cabinet card and place on top of covered canvas. I added an antique crocheted doily at an angle in the upper corner (E6000 glue) and attached vintage seam binding ribbon (Oatmeal) and the handmade fabric flower. Super easy and simplistic – but my daughter and I are pleased with the results!

Had to also share this photo from my archives…my Dad (front row left) and his older brother Jack (looking up behind him) when they were choir boys at the Presbyterian church they attended in Detroit growing up. Tugs at my heartstrings!

Happy Saturday! :)

{Christmas Oldies}

December 4, 2012

I wanted to share a few family Antique postcards with you that my Grandmother kept. They were sent from my Great-Great Grandparents (George and Hester Hedican) and Great-Great Uncle Lem to my Great Uncle (Grandpa’s little brother) Leslie Ford.

I love the sweet notes on the back and that you didn’t even need a zip code or street address back in the day. They were sent in 1911 and I love being the owner of them. The Santa is my favorite and the photograph does not do it justice.

Been hustling and bustling around here and now fear that I have come down with my first flu bug of the year. A wicked migraine for the past several days and now the yucks. I didn’t have much to share so I grabbed photos of some older art to share with you.

Little mini gothic ornaments made from lace and muslin. Lots of buttons on these…

Little mini matchbook ornaments dance like sugarplums in our heads…

One of my favorite altered spoons…I love this adorable face and the chubby shape of the spoon.

A Blue Altered Bingo card with silver sparkle…

{Shabby Text and Touches}

November 10, 2012

This is just a sneak peek of what I *plan* to use in the new tiny studio space. The Expedit will hold some of my favorite collections. I have been narrowing down what to display on it for the last several weeks. At the rate I am going, it will be done next October.

This antique frame once belonged to my Great-Grandparents…James and Elsie Ford. They lived in Redford Township, Michigan on a farm until the city of Detroit bought their land many years ago. I actually have many pieces that belonged to them, and were then passed along to my maternal Grandparent’s. Someone at one time painted the frame white and it has just been sitting around the basement. I plan to do something unique with it on the wall of our newly painted bedroom.

A few items that I also finished this week. The small journal uses a collage image from Digital Collage Sheets which was printed on to fabric. The little mini journal is a combo of pattern paper and fabrics. I was pleased with the results.

Last, a Christmas stocking that I completed this week. There have been several requests for these again this year. I forgot how labor intensive they are too make, but the end result is always worth it.

{A Soldier’s Sacrifice}

May 30, 2012

This post was originally made here:

This week, I have been thinking about my ties to the military especially with Memorial Weekend going by. My son Andrew, served in the U.S. Army (Infantry) from 2006 – 2010. He was in Iraq for 13 months.

I made this album back in 2006/2007 before my son went overseas. Looking back, I basically lived in fear and shut my emotions off for those 13 months. It is hard to describe, but until you have been a military Mom, aunt, or sister you really can never know the sacrifices our soldiers make. I am sorry if that statement is offensive to anyone, because that is not my intent with this post. The emotion and understanding of what people go through is much more strong when you have had someone close make that ultimate sacrifice.

The sacrifices that still haunt their souls and members of their family. Flags, servicemen, and patriotic photos make me cry at the drop of a hat. I will never truly know what my son went through over there, but I am certain that he had 3 guardian angels looking over him during that time.

Thank you for allowing me to share this special album with you again! It means the world to me! :)
