This is my project for this weeks Inspire over at Paper Whimsy

Summer Day Song

Wild birds fly over me.
I am not the blue curtain overhead,
I am the one who lives under the sky.
I swing to the tree-tops,
I pick strawberries,
I sing and play,
And happiness makes me like a great god
On the earth.
It makes me think of great things
A little girl like me
Could not know of.

~Hilda Conkling

I created this journal page using a poem by Hilda Conkling as my muse. The colors make me think of the summer days that await and enjoying nature. The wonderful thing about creating journal pages with the alterables is the dimension and whimsy it will add to your artwork. I hope you will try them in your next journal project.

Technique:

(1) Paint chipboard album page in your color choice with craft paint. Add pattern paper, old wallpaper border flowers, and lace to album page using matte gel medium. I work in a layering process when I do this.

(2) Type and print poem in Microsoft Word using the font of your choice. I chalked the words using tan and blue that I smudged with a q-tip. Cut journal words in strips with paper trimmer.

(3) Paint alterables in a shade of craft paint you desire, and add beautiful faces to centers. Add glitter and round circles. Glue on to page using E6000.

(4) Add journal strips throughout the page using matte gel medium.

(5) I added little dot borders with craft paint along the border or each page.

{Turning 50 and Love Journal Page}

February 5, 2014

Turning 50…I’m holding on to the last few hours of age 49…because tomorrow February 6th I will officially acknowledge 50 years of age. I cannot run from it any longer…and while my heart and spirit do not feel this age is even possible – I will embrace it and try not to look back. No special events but a dinner out with hubby…however, in July my bestie Merilee (who will turn 50 on the 9th) and I are going away to Northern Michigan and staying at a “Scottish” Bed & Breakfast…and we will dance by the shores of Lake Michigan and check off a few things from our bucket list!

I’ve added another page to my chipboard album for 2013…this time with the theme LOVE! I don’t use red much in my artwork — and sometimes find that to be a bit challenging.

This 2 page spread was made using old remnants of wallpaper, Paper Whimsy images and alterable products (frames and keys), red and gold wash craft paints, old recipe pages, and seam binding ribbon. I added some Hilda Conkling poetry also to the page.

THREE LOVES

Angel-love,
Fairy-love,
Wave-love,
Which will you choose?

threeheartsjournalpage2

I will keep them in a box
Locked with a twisted key.

threeheartsjournalpage5

I will give them to people who need love,
I will let them choose.

threeheartsjournalpage4

Fairy-love blows away like leaves.
Angels I know little about.

threeheartsjournalpage4

For myself I choose wave-love
Because of the wind and the sea and my heart.

{Spring Has Sprung Journal}

February 27, 2012

The Field Of Wonder

What could be more wonderful
Than the place where I walk sometimes?
Swaying like trees in rain . . .
Swaying like trees in sunshine
When breezes stir nothing but happiness . . .
What could be more lovely?
I walk in the Field of Wonder
Where colors come to be;
I stare at the sky . . .
I feel myself lifting on the wind
As the swallows lift and blow upward . . .
I see colors fade out, they die away . . .
I blow across a cloud . . . I am lifted . . .
How can I change again into a little girl
When wings are in my feeling of gladness?
This is strange to know
On a summer day at noon,
This is a wild new joy
When summer is over.
The scarlet of three maple trees
Will guide me home,
Oh mother my dear!
Fear nothing: I will come home
Before snow falls!

Hilda Conkling

Spring is coming…the days are getting longer and the sunshine streams brighter each day. While the weather keeps bouncing back and forth…I know soon we will be enjoying the sweet bulb flowers popping from the ground. I love bulb flowers! They remind me of the years I spent working as a florist. I made this little journal/scrapbook using various Paper Whimsy images, K & Company papers, bits of ephemera, and embellishments. I printed little bits of Hilda Conkling poetry to stay with the theme.

I am looking forward to smelling the spring air…and for those that are counting (or paying attention) it has now been 3 weeks! :) Happy Tuesday indeed!
