Several weeks ago, my son passed along this little pine chest to me hoping I could use it. Our idea was it could come in handy to hold my Grandson’s things (diapers, extra clothes etc.) when babysitting.
There were so many possibilities with this piece, leave it plain and seal it. Stain it. Paint it or chalk paint it. I opted to try a larger scale piece. While at first, I thought it might be painted white to match other items in my home, then colors started popping up in my head.
I came across Dixie Belle Paint and a shade called “Vintage Duck Egg” and knew this was it. The paint was ordered on Amazon and arrived in about 1 week. The piece was primed weeks before the chalk paint was ordered. It had time to cure. It took me the better part of a day to chalk paint it, and I still have touch up’s to do on it. It took two coats of chalk paint and one coat of sealer wax.
I adore the color.
Looking back, I wish I had stained it and then chalk painted over it. That would lend a nice rustic look if areas were sanded to look “worn”…I still have not decided if I will sand some spots or not.
I definitely see spots that need some TLC, but this was a major accomplishment for me to complete. I have many other furniture projects on the horizon, but the Grandson’s came first.
I would love to know what you think!

It turned out beautifully!! LOVE the color!!
thank you Sonya!
