{When The Swallows…}

March 25, 2007

In the August/September 2007 Issue of Somerset Memories – “Rememberance” section.

I have had the “creepy crud” for the past week. I missed two days of work and am still operating at about 70%. I think it turned into a sinus infection. We also are suffering from “virus” crud on our main computer. My scraproom computer does not always cooperate with the wireless connection so this has resulted in very little computer use the past week.

I did however complete a project during this time. I made a cigar box tribute to my Dad from a photo I found after his death. I love this photo of Dad – he looks so handsome and like a movie star. My theme for this box was one of the last things he said before he passed (or should I say sung)…

“When The Swallows Come Back To Capistrano” is an old Ink Spots tune.Dad loved them and it was one of the many songs he would sing and hum.

I used bird eggs, stones, a swallow print, and various papers to create the collage. I also printed out the lyrics to the song and adhered them along the box edge and the back of the box.

When the swallows come back to Capistrano

That’s the day you promised to come back to me;

When you whispered farewell in Capistrano

Twas the day the swallows flew out to the sea

All the mission bells will ring

The chapel choir will sing

The happiness you’ll bring

Will live in my memory

When the swallows come back to Capistrano

That’s the day I pray that you’ll come back to me

    I thought that was a movie star before I read on! What a gorgeous piece! I love the colors, with the light teal and the nest.
    Even "crud" can't keep you down, but I hope it's gone soon and you feel 110%
