Sugar Lump Studios

Art by Nancy Maxwell James

{Winter Sports}

January 25, 2009

This weeks theme at Gothic Arches is “Winter Sports”. When I was a child, each day after school the pond across the street from my home was the skating rink. I would put my ice skates on and spend hours skating. I also loved to sled. I have never tried snow skiing but enjoy it on water.

My arch has watercolored book text with alcohol inks applied. I also used a word stamp embossed in white. I added a white snowflake (Sugar Lump Studios) and glitter dots along the edges. Vintage image, vellum snowflakes and crystal brads were also applied. THe letter “W” was also added.

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

    Nancy, this is lovely! I love that image and the way you've embelished your arch.
    (I remember ice skating outside, too. Oh, how our feet would get frozen no matter how many pairs of socks we wore. Seems like everybody does it indoors anymore.)

    Very beautiful, Nancy. The only winter sport I did as a child was sledding, living in an area where nobody owned ice skates. Sometimes we'd slide across the ponds on our hard-soled shoes! I love your arch.

    Nancy,
    You inspire me. I love your work. You are a true artist. I am making a banner for a friend and I have to remember to see things the way you would. I have made a banner for my sister and I'm happy the way it came out. I had less than 10 days to put it together never doing this before, and I pulled it off. Now to think outside the box once again. Thanks for the inspiration.
