Sugar Lump Studios - A Sweet Smattering of Mixed Media Art

{Altered Tin Type Box & Swap}

May 25, 2013

This sweet antique tin type has been in my possession for over a year. I have wanted to created something with the darling image for quite some time. I found this cigar box and felt it was the perfect backdrop for the photo.

I used old sheet music on the insert portion of the box, vintage dress remnants, tin type photo, silver photo corners, and silk flower clusters.

I love the soft silk flower cluster against the photo. It feels very time worn.

Little onyx colored latches open and shut the box.

Patti G. from pattis-creations.blogspot.com contacted me a few weeks ago to ask if I would be interested in doing a prayer flag/banner swap. I rarely participate in swaps, but I was tickled to join a one on one with her. I received this adorable flag that Patti created in the mail yesterday. Her package was a happy spot in my day as I await my surgery next week.

I love the way she dyed the fabrics. Patti even sent an extra piece, some vintage sheet music, and a beautiful piece of lace and charm. So sweet!

    Wow, Nancy, your altered cigar box is exquisite!♥ You chose the most perfect embellishments for it–especially the adorable photo. I’ve never seen a cigar box with an insert on the top before–the edges frame your design so beautifully.

    I’m sending my best wishes for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery. *hugs*

    Hello Nancy,
    Happy holiday weekend : )
    I hope you are having fun.
    Your altered box here is so very lovely! That is a really cool box too. Your tin type is perfectly displayed now!
    Patti’s prayer flag is glorious! I love her choices of color and all her pretty stitching.
    I found a new little chair today and had a great time painting it. I think I have found a new love. Chairs are not safe around me…lol! Still working on my garden tea.
    What are you working on?
    Hugs,
