Sugar Lump Studios - A Sweet Smattering of Mixed Media Art

Santa Ephemera Folder

December 8, 2021

This little Christmas folder was made in the holiday spirit. I used watercolor paper as the folder base. I like how it is much thicker then cardstock and holds up nicely.

On the front cover, I decorated it using a variety of collage images, ephemera bits, punched snowflakes, and buttons. I added silver stickles to the printed postcard.

The Santa image is actually a scan from an old postcard that was sent to my Great Uncle as a child. I just love the art work!

Inside the folder I added pockets. To decorate them I cut a paper doily in half and glued it to the front of pocket. Torn strips of musical paper and snowflakes were added to the bottom. Inside each pocket I tucked other ephemera, tags, and images.

Just something fun and easy peasy to create.

Gilded Angels Christmas Card

November 28, 2021

The Gilded Angels Christmas Card was create using these gorgeous freebies located here: https://wingsofwhimsy.wordpress.com/2013/11/24/gilded-christmas-cherubs-free-printables/ I instantly feel in love with them and originally had planned to create something in neutral tones, but then the burgundy and gold foil paper said “try me”!

After placing the burgundy foil paper on the card base, I layered another piece of paper. Christmas hymnal music. I printed digital tag was then placed on top of the hymnal paper, followed by some gold embossed paper. The angel image was center on top of that. A tea stained tag was added to the left. A foam snowflake was double layered and Gold German scrap border was added to the bottom.

Old Time Christmas Pockets

November 26, 2021

These little pockets were cut in a few different sizes and made from coffee stained file folders. I stitched up either side with my machine and used my round paper punch to place a circle at top.

The front of the pockets were decorated with old snippets of lace. Sizzix snowflakes, paper punched snowflakes and buttons were glued to the tops.

Inside each pocket I added digital tags that were printed off, old Hymnal music pages, and little Victorian images. Super easy. These could be used in your journals, gift toppers for Christmas, or tree ornaments!

Christmas Wishes Card and Tags

November 16, 2021

For this project I made two versions. One is a set of tags and the other a card featuring the tag center stage. I really loved how this project turned out!

Tags: The tags were made by covering cardstock tags which measured 2.5 by 4.5 inches with hymnal sheets. I layered some sheer vintage fabric in a square and a digital tag that was printed underneath the angel image. The angel image is 2.5 inches tall by 1 3/4 inches wide. I used fabric tac to secure these down.

Next, I placed silver Stickles (Ranger) along the edge of the angel image. I set this aside to dry for a few hours. Once dry, I tied a little bit of vintage seam binding through the top of tag. A little snowflake punch from white sparkly paper adorns the corner and a mother of pearl button in the middle. I printed “Christmas Wishes” on my computer and added the text underneath.

Card: The card was made by layering paper on to a white 5 inch by 6.5 inch cardstock card base. I started with a piece of tea stained manila envelope paper. This was followed by a textured paper that I cut a little bit smaller. The third piece of paper is watercolor paper that had been run through my Sizzix with one of my embossed “Bubble” folders. I torn the edges very carefully before gluing down. The last piece of paper is a handmade mulberry paper. By layering the papers in different sizes and textures it gives a very pleasing effect.

The last step was adding the tag. I used natural colored hemp cording for the top and ran Fabric Tac glue to set it up.
