Sugar Lump Studios - A Sweet Smattering of Mixed Media Art

Seaside Dreams Gothic Arch

February 21, 2022

I am still on the “sea” theme. Maybe because it keeps snowing here and then it warms up.

This Gothic arch features the Seaside Dreams Digital kit papers from Ruby and Pearlxo again. I then added a family photo, buttons, coffee stained tag, postcard and cardstock to the back of the paper arch.

The quote is from E.E. Cummings – “For whatever we lose (like a you or a me} it’s always ourselves we find in the sea.”

Busy Bee Handmade Journal

February 9, 2022

Hello!

Today, I am sharing this handmade journal that was made with an open spine concept. This is my first time making a journal like this, but thanks to Heather over at Ruby and Pearlxo on Youtube she can walk you through the whole concept and process.

The theme of this journal is “Bees”…I have incorporated scrapbook papers, coffee stained papers, ephemera, envelopes, tags, specialty papers, music sheets, embossed paper, machine stitching, vintage ribbons, laces and trims. It was a lot of fun to make!

There are 52 pages and the front and back covers have interior pockets to tuck items in.

Coffee Stained Sweetheart Journal

January 1, 2022

Happy New Year and Welcome 2022!

Today, I am sharing this little coffee stained journal. It was made using an oversized envelope that was coffee stained ahead of time. I put some papers inside and used my sewing machine to stitch it securely in the middle.

Next, the cover was decorated using a doily that wraps around the backside. Collage images, a little stamping adorn the front. Inside, I secured some coin envelopes and they hold tags. I did not decorate the interior pages (that could be done) and you could also add pockets to the inside.

Just a little project to get us in the mood for Valentine’s Day!

Tea Stained Vintage Paper Journal

October 14, 2021

Today, I am sharing this Tea Stained Vintage Paper Journal with you. It has lots of open space for writing, but beautiful sepia photos, lace, tags incorporated throughout as well.

I started by tea staining both file folders (the journal cover) and mixed media papers. I love how staining (tea or coffee) can give such a wonderful time worn feel to a project.

I cut the cover (File Folder) larger then the signature of mixed media papers and hand sewed it into the book. Inside the front and back covers I made pockets to tuck tags, ephemera, etc. in.

The pages in the journal were decorated with vintage photos and tags that were printed on double sided matte photo paper. I also added some mini envelopes that were embossed on my Sizzix and a giant tea stained envelope in the middle of the book.

Little bits of various antique laces and mother of pearl buttons were added throughout the journal as well. Reproduction 1897 Sears catalog pages were added throughout.
