Sugar Lump Studios - A Sweet Smattering of Mixed Media Art

{Dumpling Tin Type Shrine}

February 13, 2012

Hello from snowy Michigan! :)
We have winter now!! I love my snow…and cold. It only seems right looking at white fluffy stuff the day before Valentine’s Day. I have been laying low this past week…celebrating a birthday (the big 4-8) and quitting smoking the same day (gasp I know)! 32 years of it! I am only at one week, and feeling pretty awful still! Not sure that I can pull it off…but I have my group tonight and that always helps! I am doing this cold turkey. Art has been put on hold, not real functional during the day and seem to be up most of the night…but this too shall pass! Keeping fingers crossed I do NOT give in and become truly smoke free!

About Sugar Lump Studios

I am a dabbler. I love to create using all sorts of mediums...pattern papers, stamping, fabric, assemblage, collage, altered art, a never ending smattering of whatever strikes my fancy in whimsical moments. I find creating allows my soul to be fulfilled and love to spend hours in the studio.

Nancy, I am a non-smoker, so cannot give you any tip, tricks or advice. I will, however, say a prayer that you will be given the strength to see this through. Best of luck to you.

Happy Birthday! Hope all your birthday wishes come to fruition.

Nancy; this shrine is gorgeous. Also; congrats on kicking the smoking; it’s hard but worth it. I went cold turkey 20 years ago and never picked up a cigarette. Kudos to you! Hang in there and I’ll be with you every step of the way :)

We got a dusting of snow, this morning, and it almost looked like winter. It’s colder, now, and I’m enjoying it, too!

    Love ya – Marilyn

you’re very brave. I don’t smoke but I’m in awe of people who give up. That’s a big thing you’re doing. I’d suggest doing crafts. Make something. It helps me when I’m dieting ; when I start a project that’s going right, I forget to eat. It’s as if the feel-good comes from the paint and clay, rather than chocolate. Let us know how this goes. We’re all on your side.

PS. The tin is cute, too!

Congratulations on your birthday AND quitting the habit. I was never a big smoker, but a very scheduled one: my first of the day was always right after supper (most days). Even though I was a light smoker it wasn’t easy, especially with that timing habit!!!! But I did it cold turkey… over 30 years ago, and it can be done. Hang in there.
Love your tin type shrine. (I have one of your cigar boxes with a tin type photo.. and I just love it.

Quitting smoking is HARD but you can do it!!!! And if you slip, just get back up and go again!!!!! I quit a few times before it “stuck”!!! And that was over 20 years ago!! Your shrine is wonderful!!!!!!!!!!

Your shrine is Gorgeous Nancy, I just Love it so much!!
It truly is SO HARD to quit smoking and I know I need to quit too! I know you can do it though and it will be well worth it! May I ask what group you are going to, just wondered if they had one in my area. Sounds like it is a help for you.
It must look so pretty with all the fluffy snow where you live! :) They keep saying we’re gong to have rain here, but not yet, sure hope it’s coming soon! :)

Nancy, dear you took one more day, that is great,-just one step after the other, and then one day, you will not think about it anymore–I know–as you know :-)
    Biggest hug to you –
and I love your beautiful wooden schrine, so sweet with the sewing -and other bits- and the cute baby with the “tail “on her head.
Have a great evening, in your group, and see you soon-
    Hugs and love, Dorthe

Hi–I was just “perusing” your wonderful blog and came across this post, which I hadn’t seen before. I love the shrine! And I hope you were successful in quitting smoking–I know it must be so hard–but believe me, it is worth it for your health. So many of my relatives smoked, including my dad, when I was growing up. They all have passed away from lung disease, every single one of them, on both sides of the family–except for one of my uncles, who had a heart attack and quit. My dad got lung cancer, and it was a horrible, sad, painful death. My mom was the only one who didn’t smoke out of all those people, and she’s still physically healthy at 83! I wish for you many, many years of good health, Nancy, and easy breathing–and if at first you don’t succeed, keep trying; you will make it, I have faith in you!!!!!!
