{Pretty Posie Pennants} 14 heARTS Day #11

Pretty Posie Pennants

These whimsical pennants can be made in any color scheme for your Valentine, or string them from ribbon to make your own bunting.

Supplies:

Cardstock
Deckle Edge Scissors
Old Sheet Music
Vintage Eyelet Pieces
Sewing Machine (optional)
Buttons
E6000 glue
Computer word text
Gold Heart Doilies
Gold Tinsel Stems
Red Eyelets
Paper Whimsy Beautiful Faces Sheet 138
Paper Whimsy Roses Sheet 266
Ephemera

Technique:

(1) Trace out pennant shape on to cardboard or heavy cardstock. The size of the pennant I used is 9 inches tall by 6 inches (at the widest point).

(2) Trace shape on to old sheet music and cut out.

(3) Attach pennant sheet music sheets to cardstock and stitch along the edges. Trim along edge of cardstock with deckle edge scissors.

(4) Add a strip of eyelet trim to the top of the pennant. I stitched mine on with the machine.

(5) Set eyelets on each side of the pennant. Glue buttons along the top of pennant.

(6) Add gold tinsel stems to the top and twist the edges closed.

(7) Add gold heart to center of pennant with your favorite adhesive.

(8) Add a bit of ephemera, rose, and Paper Whimsy image.

(9) Add red sparkle heart sticker, and buttons to front.

(10) Type out word art in Microsoft Word, print and cut out strip. Attach to the front of the heart.

{Sonnets Altered Mailbox} 14 heARTS Day #10

This little mailbox is sure to be part of your Valentine decor for years to come. Add little trinkets and tuck inside to warm any heart.

Supplies:

Medium Paper Mache Mailbox (Hobby Lobby)
Matte Gel Medium
Gesso
Cream Craft Paint
Lace Trim
Clear German Glass or Mica Chips
Pattern Paper
Ephemera (old sheet music or book text)
Buttons
Butterflies
Paper Whimsy Image 170

Technique:

(1) Paint paper mache mailbox with a coat of gesso inside and outside. Once dry add two coats of craft paint in your color.

(2) Remove mailbox flag and paint separately. Once dry, coat with matte gel medium and roll into German glass. Tap off access and allow time to dry.

(3) Measure areas that you will be applying the pattern paper to and cut out accordingly. Do a dry fit with the paper to make sure it will fit.

(4) Apply matte gel medium to inside of box and add pattern paper, book text or ephemera working out air bubbles to get a nice smooth finish. Set aside to dry.

(5) Apply matte gel to outside of box and apply pattern paper being sure to smooth and work out air bubbles. Allow drying time before adding remaining layers.

(6) Add ephemera, image and butterfly to box. Allow time to dry between layers.

(7) Glue lace trim along edges of box. Once this has dried, glue buttons on.

(8) Re-attach mail flag on side of box.

(9) Tuck little treasures inside.

Notes d’amour

Make these sweet little notes and give to someone you love or hang them in your home, office, or studio. Each pocket contains a special heart to pull out.

Supplies:

French Ephemera (Graphics Fairy)
Post Card Graphics Fairy
Collage Image Chicks57
Old Sheet Music
Silver Tinsel Stems
Seam Binding Ribbon
Vintage Buttons
White Prima Flowers
Silver Doilies
Sewing Machine
Double Sided Tape
Cardboard
Hot Glue Gun
E6000 Glue
Photo Matte Paper
Eyelets

Technique:

(1) Print out 2 postcards on photo matte paper in Microsoft Word making sure the images are the same size.

(2) Cut images and size front to back using double sided tape. Stitch on machine along all edges except the top edge.

(3) Set 2 eyelets on front of postcard and run a seam binding ribbon handle through. Tie off leaving streamer ends.

(4) Decorate the front of the postcard using silver doilies (folded in half), prima flowers and vintage buttons. E6000 is the best glue to make these items hold.

(5) Trace heart shape on cardboard. Cover front and back sides of heart cardboard shape with music sheets. Trim off access.

(6) Using a glue gun add small bits of hot glue to edge of heart, slowly bending tinsel stems. At bottom of heart point, trim tinsel stem. Start with a fresh tinsel stem gluing the rest of the way along the heart edge.

(7) Add small bits of ephemera and the vintage collage image on front of heart. Type out the words “My Sweet Valentine” and add to front of heart using double sided tape.

Love Prayer Flags

These sweet little flags are easy to make and fun to display…even in the winter months. The more you create – the more lovely the display. Hang them from the mantle, china cabinet, book cases, and in the summer months display them from a line in the garden.

Supplies:
Canvas cloth
Vintage lace remnants
Sewing machine
Ecru thread
Vintage buttons
Assorted calico scraps
Warm & Natural Batting
Pearl Seed Beads
Needle & Thread

Technique:

(1) Cut and tear strips of canvas in the sizes 10 inches longs by 6.5 inches wide.

(2) Add a 1 inch hem at the top of each flag by sewing on the machine.

(3) Add layers of lace randomly to front of each flag. Layering is the process to give your flag dimension.

(4) Cut hearts out of scrap calico and/or warm and natural batting and sew to front of flag.

(5) Add bits of lace scrap, vintage buttons, and beads in each heart.

(6) Sew the words “LOVE” with embroidery floss on front of flag.

(7) Sew ruffle (eyelet) to bottom of each flag.

(8) String flags from twine, ribbon or wood dowels.
