Vintage Cabinet Card Cigar Box

October 13, 2013

I have not been creating or blogging much because of this…so today I am trying to play catch up. On thing that has lifted our spirits is the totally gorgeous weather we have had for over a week here in Michigan. I wish it could stay year round. Autumn in my favorite time of year…beautiful colors and the temperature is “just right”!
This little cigar box I picked up at our local antique mall and altered it with an old cabinet photo (from Michigan) and various embellishments. I was just happy to create something. Sometimes it is hard to get back in that “mode” when you have been out of it for several weeks.

I also wanted to share a few vintage freebies for you to use in your art work. I only ask that you not put these in collage sheets for sale, personal use only. thanks!

Hello there friends!
I’ve been here – just swamped with all sorts of projects right now. I’ve also been saying good-bye to summer and embracing the fall season. Today, it is a gorgeous day with an Indian summer feel to it and I wish this is the temperature it could stay all year. Not too hot and not too cold!

I wanted to share another altered fabric collage box I made. Most of my projects right now are “Christmas” oriented because of my shop. This box has another fabric collage inserted into it with sweet little angels taking center stage. Lots of antique lace, mica chips, bottle brush trees and little pink ornaments. They are so fun to make!

{Winter Wonderland Altered Fabric Collage Box}

I know it is a bit early thinking about winter and the holiday season, but this image sparked my muse this week and my art just went with it.

I created a fabric collage using a sweet image from one of the Paper Whimsy archive newsletters. I inserted the fabric collage once it was complete into a shabby box (that my husband created) that had been painted a shabby/creamy white.

Next, I added antique lace around the outside edge of the box and embellished with mother of pearl buttons. Inside the box, little buttons, mini glass ornaments, and silver snowflakes were all added as embellishments. The final touch was a dusting of mica chips on the collage and bottom ledge of the box.

I hope you enjoy this new creation – even though winter is a few months away!

Have a wonderful weekend!

{Altered Tin Type Box & Swap}

May 25, 2013

This sweet antique tin type has been in my possession for over a year. I have wanted to created something with the darling image for quite some time. I found this cigar box and felt it was the perfect backdrop for the photo.

I used old sheet music on the insert portion of the box, vintage dress remnants, tin type photo, silver photo corners, and silk flower clusters.

I love the soft silk flower cluster against the photo. It feels very time worn.

Little onyx colored latches open and shut the box.

Patti G. from pattis-creations.blogspot.com contacted me a few weeks ago to ask if I would be interested in doing a prayer flag/banner swap. I rarely participate in swaps, but I was tickled to join a one on one with her. I received this adorable flag that Patti created in the mail yesterday. Her package was a happy spot in my day as I await my surgery next week.

I love the way she dyed the fabrics. Patti even sent an extra piece, some vintage sheet music, and a beautiful piece of lace and charm. So sweet!

I hope you are enjoying your Memorial Weekend and all the festivities it brings!
