Sugar Lump Studios - A Sweet Smattering of Mixed Media Art

Garden Gate Fabric Collage

August 1, 2017

Happy August Everyone!
I wanted to share a “sneak peek” of my project “Garden Gate Fabric Collage” with Mixed Up Magazine. This is a digital magazine that you can purchase and read online. It has so many different types of projects in each issue.

This is the link to pocketmags where the magazine can be purchased: https://pocketmags.com/mixed-up-mag and this is the website for more information: https://www.mixedupmag.com/

I hope you have been enjoying your summer. The past two months, I have been moving again…twice in 10 months! Phew! I have been in my new place for a week now (July 24th which was also my 3 year stroke anniversary), and still unpacking. How do we accumulate so much stuff? I miss creating very much, and hope to be back in the swing again soon!

Stay cool!

{Antique Bits Chipboard Journal Album}

February 2, 2017

ETA: I have not submitted art work in over two years, and after I posted this last night took a chance and sent it to Stampington. I was asked to send it to them for publication, so my photos have been removed of the journal. I am super happy right now. My last publication was my stroke journal, so this was the kick I needed to get going again! :)

For many years now, I have been collecting various little items to use in my artwork. My weakness would be vintage photos, laces, hankies, ribbon and mother of pearl buttons. I love to create using old vintage items because they feel like something loved and treasured. There is curiosity in the CDV or cabinet card that you may find and they have lost their way from ancestors. I wanted to make the little photos feel loved again!

This little chipboard journal was a combination of old photos that needed a home and to be loved in a new format. The project could also be done using copies of your own family photos, or favorite collage images.

I am excited to share that my copy of this publication came in the mail today. I have my stroke journal featured on pages 58-61 of Somerset Studio Gallery Winter 2016. I created this journal last fall/winter and it was my first try creation post stroke. It follows 3-4 months of my recovery process. I am super thrilled to see it in print and think they did a gorgeous job laying it out for the magazine.

Thanks for letting me share it with you and thank you for being part of my cheering squad!

I didn’t have anything new made for this weeks share, so I pulled something from the archives that has been a favorite of mine. This bag was featured in Somerset Haute Handbags last year. I created it using a Victorian petticoat flounce ruffle. Bascially, it is a muslin bag that I added the ruffle to the front of. A beautiful piece of vintage wide lace for the shoulder strap and a handmade flower. The cabinet card I photographed it with has long been a favorite of mine.
